Remnants

1654. Rebecca’s world turns upside down when she learns her family must flee her beloved Recife, the only home she’s ever known. The adults whisper about danger and something called the Inquisition, but no one will tell her who or what it is and why it’s chasing them across an ocean.

What begins as an unwanted journey quickly becomes the adventure of a lifetime. Attacked by pirates, stranded on a deserted island, and forced to survive with nothing but courage and hope, Rebecca and her family eventually reach the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam. But their struggles aren’t over—its governor insists that Jews are not welcome. After everything they’ve survived, are they about to lose their future all over again?

Inspired by true events, Remnants follows a young Sephardic refugee and her resilient community as they help lay the foundations of what will become North America’s first Jewish congregation, Shearith Israel—“Remnants of Israel.”
